This is a W-2 Position. This is not a contractor position. Hours are designated and expected to be fulfilled according to job description. It is part-time and hours will vary depending on student scheduling. This job requires designated hours of availability, and a commitment to a year of work. This is a long-term, part-time position, with growth opportunity to full-time based on overall quality of performance and openness of availability by applicant.
Instructor’s Job Description:
Job Expectations:
Punctuality. Being on time is absolutely vital to our success here at Brazos Creative. Private lessons start at the top of the hour and the half hour markers. We must be able to handle a 30-minute turnaround not going too slow or too fast, even by a minute. Group is every 40 minutes and calendar subject to change.
Availability. Brazos Creative will require you to provide us with your work availability. Your availability will be reviewed and approved/denied based on what Brazos Creative needs. We will set this availability in the system and confirm with you. We will not change your availability in the system after it is set. To change your availability, it must be submitted in writing to your manager. Availability cannot be changed within the first 90 days of employment and is subject to approval. You MUST be available during your hours of availability. Brazos Creative is going to fill these hours as quickly as possible and requires you to be ready to work once a student fills a time slot.
Polite, courteous, and conversive. Must be friendly to be friendly and greet parents, students, and other guests when they encounter them. Try and start a conversation; it does not have to be long; welcoming is the vibe we want to convey.
Clear and Concise Communication. Every instructor MUST communicate with the families of your students either in-person during the classes, or also in between lessons throughout the week via text or phone call.
Ability to receive instruction. There is always some sort of weekly message sent (at the moment – via text). Please follow the instructions provided as they are specifically designed initiatives to help students achieve their designated performance goals.
Paperwork. Practice Logs: fill out the practice logs during the class. Follow the OIG - Practice Logs. Progress Reports: Fill out progress reports. Follow OIG – Progress Report.
Cleanliness. This starts with yourself and extends to the area around you. You MUST adhere to the Dress Code Policy. Cleaning up the classroom after every student is non-negotiable. Every student deserves to have a clean, fresh environment in which to learn. This includes straightening up learning resources, throwing away trash, wiping down the piano keys with sanitizer clothes to prevent the spread of illness, and spraying air freshener when necessary. After your shift, please make sure everything is tidy and chairs/benches are returned to their original positions.
Preparedness. You must come to every lesson prepared. Period. Continuing education should be done on personal time and prep time should be completed during end of previous lesson for that student.
Proper Music Playing Technique. To your best ability, you must teach using proper technique.
Ability to Assist Students with Decision Making. After every recital season, students must submit arrangement requests for the next recital. They will request a fun song, but when they do not have one in mind, you will need to assist them in choosing one. We will transcribe it if necessary to match it to their skill level. It is your responsibility to document these requests as instructors.
Prepare Students for Recitals.
Attend Recitals. This is Mandatory.
Come to Staff Meetings. Although Brazos Creative will try and work meetings into everyone’s approved availability, there may be times in which this is not possible, and your attendance is required at a staff meeting. With exception of prior approval from management for your absence, you are required and expected to attend ALL scheduled staff meetings.
Absence and Substitutes. All shifts MUST be covered. If not by you, by a substitute approved by management. You are expected to keep management informed on any availability issue. If you request a substitute, you MUST provide substitutes with notes, either digital or hard copy. See Employee Handbook for policies and procedures regarding time-off, absence, and substitutes.
Best Lesson EVER. Teach each lesson like it is the best lesson you have ever taught. Leave life at the door and be present in the moment for your student.
Instructor Position Description:
As an instructor you will be responsible for creating and conducting educational lessons that reinforce life skills through creative outlets, providing single sitting lessons that can be reviewed through the lesson notes and practiced at home. Your student should walk out of every lesson having learned something new and with a goal they are encouraged to work toward. This can take many forms depending on the age and skill level of the student and sometimes requires some outside-of-the-box thinking.
Being an Instructor at Brazos Creative is one of the most rewarding and important jobs we think you will ever have. You will positively affect your student’s ability to play an instrument and inspire how they feel about themselves daily. You will have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of your students, not just through your ability to accelerate their progress by meeting them at their current level of skill. Brazos Creative Instructors are set apart by company’s intentional encouragement of our team to teach each lesson like it is the best lesson they have every taught in their life, and to truly care about the lives of their students.
Compensation:
Instructor pay is based on previous experience and knowledge. Please send resume to joe@brazos-creative.com. MUST be able to Pass Background Check. Drug test may be required upon hiring.
