The January Governmental Affairs program at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16, will host two State candidates: Julie Johnson and Rockwell Bower.

Both candidates are running for Texas House District 115 (Coppell).
Rockwell Bower is a native-Texan born in Houston and raised in Dallas, where he graduated from J.J. Pearce High School in Richardson.

Bower’s post-graduate education took him around the country, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California - Irvine with dual majors in criminology and psychology; the Engalitcheff Institute at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. where he studied comparative economic and political systems' and Ohio and Virginia as he obtained his Juris Doctorate from Washington & Lee University School of Law in Virginia. During law school he clerked for Haynes & Boone in Fort Worth and the Attorney General for the State of New York in its Civil Litigation Bureau.

After completing law school, Bower returned to Dallas where he now practices law with Polsinelli, PC, a top-ranked national firm. His practice is focused on commercial litigation and data privacy/cybersecurity.

A native of Alabama, Johnson attended the University of Texas and the University of Houston Law School and has made Texas her home for over 30 years.

Julie Johnson is a practicing attorney in Dallas County and has represented clients ranging from business owners to employees, health care providers to patients, students, parents and families.

Johnson’s experience as a mediator in both civil litigation and family law has created a style of leadership that is focused both on results and putting people first.

As a small-business owner responsible for the growth and financial well-being of her employees, Johnson understands the value and reward of hard work. She believes that the important role of business owners and entrepreneurs should never be underestimated or limited beyond what their imaginations can conceive.

Johnson grew up witnessing the vital role education plays in the lives of children. Both her parents and grandparents were teachers. Steeped in the importance of a strong education, her access to educational opportunities has been at the center of her own professional success, and as a mom of two teenage boys Julie believes in the right for all Texans to equal opportunity for a quality education from early childhood through high school graduation and beyond.

At this Governmental Affairs meeting, we will have a candidate forum in preparation for the March 6, 2018, primary election.

Committee Chairman Jeff Varnell will offer the candidates a series of impromptu questions relating to the 85th legislative session, current events and their position on a number of unresolved business issues facing Texas, such as local control, public education funding and school vouchers.

All Governmental Affairs Luncheons meet in the second-floor conference room at Coppell Town Center (255 Parkway Blvd., Coppell) and are held on the third Tuesday of each from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. The event is structured for attendees to enjoy networking and lunch from 11:30 a.m. - noon, with the program running from noon – 1 p.m.
